6.0kW Medium-wave Infra-red Retro-fit Panel for PED Contraflow Oven.

Many electric contraflow ovens still use metal-sheathed long-wave infrared emitters. By upgrading to medium-wave infrared through a simple, low-cost conversion system developed with East Midlands Electricity, you can improve oven efficiency by at least 30%.

This 6.0kW module is designed as a direct replacement for the original heating panels in your oven. You can install it individually, in pairs, or as a complete bay set (see separate listings or contact us for options).

Installation is straightforward; simply disconnect the electrical wires, remove the original panel, and fit the new module in its place.

Oven Conversion:

Fast-response medium-wave “cassette” emitters, mounted on insulated reflector panels, directly replace the original metal-sheathed elements. These cassette arrays match the power rating and wiring configuration of the existing emitters, allowing you to retain your current wiring and controls without upgrading the electrical supply, keeping conversion costs low.

You can choose to convert all oven zones or only selected areas to best meet your process requirements. The conversion process is quick and minimally disruptive, typically completed within a few hours.

How it Works:

In contraflow-type ovens, convective (hot-air) loss is the primary source of inefficiency. Medium-wave infrared significantly increases the amount of radiant energy delivered directly to the products, compared to long-wave emitters. As a result, less convective heat is generated, leading to a noticeable improvement in overall oven efficiency.

Benefits:

Converting to medium-wave infrared offers two key benefits: increased throughput with no rise in energy costs, or lower energy consumption while maintaining the same output. While exact performance gains vary by product, recent tests show processing time reductions of at least 30%.

The new system also features a rapid response time, reaching operating temperature in just 30 seconds, compared to the 5 minutes required by long-wave emitters. This quick heat-up allows for further energy savings by switching the system off during short production breaks or integrating automatic product detection.

Efficiency Trials:

Numerous contraflow ovens have been successfully converted using a combination of retrofitted, wavelength-specific medium-wave heater panels and burst-fire control. Trials conducted on a variety of products with these upgraded ovens consistently demonstrate significantly improved performance.
